The International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) is an actor of change. In the Global project Report 2022 you can read what projects are carried out by our members. The report highlights the diverse range of initiatives undertaken by students from different parts of the world who are passionate about promoting sustainability in agriculture and related fields.
Our world faces many challenges, including food insecurity, inequality, health problems, and climate change. To address these challenges, new approaches to agriculture are needed. The report shows how IAAS drove change in 2022 and how young people have taken the lead by example in promoting sustainable agriculture.
According to the United Nations, the global population is projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, and food production will need to increase by 70% to feed the growing population. The projects highlighted in the IAAS report demonstrate innovative approaches to sustainably increasing food production. From growing mushrooms in Bangladesh to soil rehabilitation in Togo.
In addition to addressing food insecurity, the projects featured in the report also address the challenge of climate change. Agriculture is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and it is estimated that the sector will need to reduce emissions by at least 50% by 2050 to meet global climate targets. The IAAS projects demonstrate how sustainable agriculture can reduce emissions and contribute to climate mitigation, such as reducing the big losses in food systems, as addressed by IAAS South Korea.
The publication of the report is an important step in showcasing the positive impact that students have on sustainable agriculture and rural development worldwide. The projects featured in the report demonstrate the commitment and passion of IAAS students and inspire for others to get involved in similar initiatives.
In conclusion, the IAAS report highlights the important role that students can play in addressing the global challenges of food insecurity, inequality, health problems, and climate change through innovative and sustainable agriculture initiatives. The projects featured in the report demonstrate the positive impact that can be achieved through collaboration and knowledge-sharing and serve as a call to action for others to get involved. This report is an open-invitation to everyone interested in making positive changes from business to fellow student organizations, from governments to academia. We want to go further!
